What Nuggets is
Nuggets is a local-first document reader with optional Book AI. This page describes current 1.0 practice.
On your device
Your Library (PDF files you add) and Highlights stay on the device. Add to library copies the file into the app sandbox. It does not upload the file.
Guest use
Library, Reader, and Highlights work as a silent guest. First launch creates a guest account with a server user id. A guest cannot Index a book or use Book AI.
Sign in with Apple
First Index or first Ask requires Sign in with Apple. We store an Apple subject identifier so we can find the same Nuggets account later.
Nuggets Cloud (optional Index)
If you choose Index this book, Nuggets uploads that file to Nuggets Cloud so we can build Book context for Book AI. The file is stored with our Cloud indexing service and object storage.
Book AI
Ask, Explain, and Summary send your question and Book context to the Nuggets Backend and to DeepSeek. Book AI is not fully offline. Do not treat it as a private on-device model.
In-app purchases
Unlimited Book AI is an optional in-app purchase. Restore Purchases lives on Profile and uses the App Store Apple ID. Restore does not create a Nuggets account.
Delete Account
Delete Account wipes Nuggets Cloud data and personal details (name, email, nickname, device tokens). PDFs and Highlights on the phone stay unless you delete them yourself. Delete keeps an opaque account id and the Book AI usage meter so free quota cannot reset. A later Sign in with Apple on the same Apple ID is the same person, not a new free pool.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, we may send a report to Sentry. Reports may include a user id. They must not include PDF text, Highlight text, Ask or Explain prompts, Book context, or auth tokens.
